Over years there have definitely been some down right awful names give to cars by their creators. Let us look at possibly the worst ones!

Ford Probe

Hitting the UK market back in 1992, the Ford Probe was originally designed to be the successor for the much loved Capri. Unfortunately sales were not as good as Ford had predicted and the pop-up headlamp beauty fell to the way side. We can’t help but think that the sales may have been impacted by the rather crude name!

Mazda Titan Dump

Although not technically a car, the Mazda Titan Dump has to make it into this list. The naming of this vehicle wouldn’t have been too bad if they had remember to include the word ‘truck’ in the title.

Vauxhall Adam

Although not a particularly ridiculous name, the Adam made it onto the list for its plain lack of creativity and just general dull sound. Although it is a great city car, we can’t help but feel that Vauxhall are a little late to the small car market.

Ford Escort

The well loved Ford Escort also has to be put into this list because even though it is somewhat of an iconic car, we all seem to forget that the name of the car is quite questionable. Unfortunately Ford have not made an Escort for the UK market since 2003 but have redesigned most of their other classic models.

Mazda Bongo Friendee

You could say that the ‘Bongo Friendee’ is a rival to the ‘Volkswagen Camper Van’ but then you remember the name of the Bongo and it just sounds like something your 3 year old niece would say. Some of the Friendees came fitted with a kitchen but most were exported as a 8 seater MPV and converted later on.

Mitsubishi Lettuce

Yep, you read that correctly. Mitsubishi came out with the ‘Minica Lettuce’ in 1989 which had a single door on the right side, two doors on the passenger side and a liftgate! Only available in Japan, you might say that this car is a bit of a (awful pun warning) wet lettuce!

Honda That’s

Manufactured for the Japanese market only, this five-door hatchback was only for sale between 2002-2006. It is quite easy to see that Honda stole the aesthetics from their rival, Nissan, as the car looks almost identical to the Cube!

Daihatsu Naked

Without looking at the car you would probably assume that the ‘Daihatsu Naked’ would be dainty and bare only the essentials, you would be completely wrong. In fact Daihatsu created what is effectively a Jeep on steroids it almost looks armour plated! The Naked finished production in 2004.

Dodge Swinger

Not much really needs to be said about the name of the ‘Dodge Dart Swinger’ as it is pretty obvious why this is on the list. So instead let us talk briefly about this gorgeous muscle car. In 1970, Dodge gave all of the two-door hardtop ‘Dart’ models, the ‘Swinger’ name except the high-line custom series. The last batch of Dart Swingers was produced in 1976 and with a top speed of 121mph you can see why some of the American police took them on as their patrol cars!

Subaru BRAT

The Subaru BRAT is a four-wheel drive pickup that was sold from 1978 to 1994 and was an export only model. You might recall seeing this particular vehicle in the TV show ‘My Name is Earl’ or the cult classic film ‘Napoleon Dynamite’. Although not a bad car to be seen in back in the 80’s, you might not be considered cool when you tell ladies that you drive a BRAT.
