If you are a returning Motor-Vision reader, you may remember our blog post from last year where we put Japanese and German cars against each other to find a winner. Since so many of you enjoyed that post, we thought it would be cool to put our own British cars against that of our overseas ally, America! This is going to be a close battle, so strap in!

The Hatchback

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, there are always going to be small hatchbacks on the road. Favoured by small families and new drivers, the hatchback often dominates the car industry.

Mini Hatchback – Team GB

Mini Cooper S

Manufactured at Plant Oxford in Cowley, Mini are still very much a British car brand after all these years. The Mini Hatch is priced fairly high when compared to its rivals however it is worth remembering that you are getting a very unique style and a certain element of badge prestige that can’t be seen elsewhere.

Ford Fiesta – Team USA

Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta has been the UK’s best selling car for a while and it’s pretty clear to see why. Not only are they pretty cheap to buy second hand but they are also reasonable to buy brand new! Even the cheaper versions have great tech inside and most notably awesome fuel efficiency.

The Hatchback Winner: Ford Fiesta

Ford Fiesta

There is no doubt that the Fiesta is one of the best small cars on the market today and when put up against a Mini, you can see why the Fiesta remains the UK’s best selling car. It’s affordable, nicely designed and even reliable.

The SUV

4×4 or SUV sales are through the roof at the moment, in both the UK and the USA. This is most likely down to them becoming more and more affordable and families choosing to get SUV’s rather than saloons or people carriers as they did previously. Also with the market booming, consumers have a huge range of SUV’s to choose from, with sport and super car brands even getting involved in the market.

So, with this huge demand, who makes the best car for their country?

Land Rover Discovery – Team GB

Land Rover Discovery

An instantly recognizable car, Land Rover have been at the forefront of 4×4 motoring for many years. With seven full-sized seats and a tailgate that can hold 300kg when lowered, you are sure to be able to get all the kids in, the shopping and even your dogs!

Land Rover Discovery

We really love the new design of the Discovery; the blocky looks have been replaced with smooth curves which echo the Range Rover Evoque. The downside for the Discovery has to be the price tag which is high compared to its rivals.

Jeep Grand Cherokee – Team USA

Jeep Grand Cherokee

Enter the Jeep Grand Cherokee; a vehicle capable of town cruising as well as full blown off-roading. Jeep pulled out all of the stops with the Grand Cherokee, it’s reasonably priced, looks fantastic and is packed with great tech (such as the optional Wi-Fi).

Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you are looking for a more rugged vehicle, the Grand Cherokee could be the car for you as it has many off-roading packages but don’t expect the luxury of a Land Rover.

The SUV Winner: Land Rover Discovery

Land Rover Discovery

Although Jeep does put up a fantastic fight, we have to choose the Land Rover and for good reason. It’s iconic, luxurious and has the badge prestige that many are looking for. Just be prepared to splash the cash!

The Sports Car

For those of us who are lucky enough to be able to purchase a sports car, we have put two of the best contenders against each other.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage – Team GB

Aston Martin Vantage

If you are looking for badge prestige, luxury, beauty and raw power; then the Aston Martin V8 Vantage is the car for you. It oozes pure style and certainly delivers on the track whilst still being comfortable enough for driving on the road.

Aston Martin Vantage

If you are genuinely interested in buying an Aston Martin, it may be worth waiting until next year when they are set to release a new version of the Vantage!

Dodge Viper ACR – Team USA

Dodge Viper

Known for it’s brutal power and menacing looks, the Dodge Viper ACR is a car for those of us who are looking for an adrenaline rush. The ACR may not have the fastest top speed at 177mph but it certainly has the most horsepower with a whopping 645bhp! The track is where the Viper ACR lives and breathes so don’t expect this beast to be good around town…

The Sports Car Winner:  Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Aston Martin Vantage

Aston Martin are widely respected across the globe as being the pinnacle of elegance and class. Who are we to get in their way? The Vantage takes the crown from the Dodge purely based on road driving capability but it is a very close call.

The Overall Winner: It’s a tie!

Although the scores tally up to being in Britain’s favour, it is far too close to call a winner here. Both countries create astounding cars in their own right and both have very different markets to appeal to. We would love to know what you think about this battle!
