Audi’s executive-class S Series models are set for a boost after it was confirmed that they will benefit from the addition of the torque-rich V6 TDI engine.

The new Audi S6 and S7 are joining the reinstated SQ5 in featuring the engine, with the manufacturer stating that the technology “delivers on the promise” of the S badge but is also designed to be “in it for the long haul”.

Combined with an electrically-powered compressor and a 48-volt primary electrical system, the technology will be able to produce 700 Nm of torque across an engine speed range of 2,500 to 3,100 rpm.

Set to be available in mainland Europe and the UK in the summer, the S Series comprises of the S6 Saloon, the S6 Avant and the S7 Sportback. Each features quattro permanent all-wheel drive as standard, with the self-locking centre differential distributing torque between the front and rear axle to a ratio of 40:60.

A six-piston ceramic brake system is also optional, with each of the models including 20-inch wheels with 255/40 tyres as standard. Audi adds that the cars boast striking designs both inside and out, with each offering a high level of comfort and being perfectly equipped for tackling long distances.

Details related to the models have emerged after Audi provided a glimpse into the future with its recent showcase at Auto Shanghai. The company described its AI:ME showcar as its vision of what an autonomous city car could ultimately look like, with it boasting a range of features designed to keep occupants entertained as the vehicle drives itself.
