Citroen is primed and ready to reveal its latest creation at this year’s Beijing Motor Show, with the DS 5LS R concept set to go on display.
The event will take place from April 20th – 29th and will feature some of the finest new machines and innovations looking to be the next big thing on the market.
According to Citroen, the concept builds on the existing DS 5LS but adds even more athleticism and creates a more dynamic character than its predecessor.
It also takes some cues from the DS3 Cabrio Racing and DS4 Racing concepts, as the brand intends to try and deliver the best possible performance alongside top levels of design and innovation.
The DS 5LS R will be a high-performance luxury car, equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine capable of providing 300 bhp and 400 Nm of torque.
To improve performance, the chassis has been lowered by 15mm in comparison to the standard production version, while the concept also comes with wider front track and a sequential gearbox, controlled by paddles behind the steering wheel.
Weight has been reduced to increase speed, balance and performance, achieved through the extensive use of carbon fibre.
Of course, the car has tried to deliver the image of luxury and sporting performance through its design. In Beijing, the red colouring will emphasise this racing image most prominently. Matt carbon grey side stripes also give it a unique look.
It features a ‘DS Wings’ grille in carbon grey dark chrome, while sporty 20-inch wheels deliver a notable stance.
However, it wouldn’t be a luxury car without featuring comfort and quality materials throughout the interior.
Alcantara and leather line the cabin, as well as the dashboard and the steering wheel. Instruments, the steering wheel and the central console are also embossed with the Carmine Red colours and the ‘R’ signature.
The car will take all of the pedigree Citroen has in the World Rally Championship and deliver it as part of a road-worthy production model.
It’s a truly robust estate car, offering functionality and performance in one luxurious and professional package.
To accompany the launch of the car, Citroen has also delivered a new short video detailing the car’s desirability and professional performance, delivered under the DS brand.
Visitors to the Beijing show are sure to be impressed by the latest concept from the manufacturer. A future release of the car is sure to depend on how well it goes down at the event. However, don’t expect this creation to be the final version of the model, with Citroen likely to make changes before it is sent out to the wider market.
The DS 5LS has already been a hit in the Chinese market, thanks to its distinctive styling. The ‘R’ version is expected to take this base and turn up the class to deliver something truly irresistible.
