In the run up to the release of the Nissan Qashqai, the Japanese manufacturer was extremely vocal when discussing the potential of its latest model. Shrouded under a mysterious cloud for some time, Nissan claimed the car would “redefine” the crossover market. Now that the full details of the model have been released, the brand is still unable to keep quiet about their latest achievement.

According to Nissan, the Qashqai is now the “world’s most parkable car”, with the model featuring a whole range of quality technologies that will enable even those with the most palpable fear of parallel parking to easily squeeze into spaces.

The Park Assist system and Around View Monitor work together in order to take the stress out of driving. When driving up to a spot you think would be perfect, the Qashqai measures the size of the available space before Park Assist automatically steers the car into position, with the driver handling the forward and reverse motion.

It’s pretty incredible when you think about it. Manufacturers have been trying to refine the technology for years, but it seems Nissan are confident enough with the system to officially roll it out. However, it does make you wonder how long it will be until drivers are required to do nothing at all to get from A to B.

The space available only needs to be 80cm longer than the Qashqai itself, and the Park Assist will help the driver guide the car snuggly into the space with room to spare.

Not only is this feature really cool, Nissan says it will save time and avoid any damage caused to wheels, tyres and the car’s bodywork.

However, it’s not just parallel parking that is a doddle for the Qashqai. The system will also help drivers when it comes to bay parking, thanks to the car’s ‘helicopter view’.

Cameras fitted to the front, rear and beneath each door mirror provides a 360 degree picture of the surrounding area. The images are displayed on the Qashqai’s large seven-inch NissanConnect screen so you know exactly where you are going when pulling into the space.

The Qashqai is also prepared for the unexpected, with the car featuring moving object detection. If anything moves in critical areas around the vehicle, the driver will hear an audible warning so they can manoeuvre as appropriate.

The cameras are also kept clean and clear through Nissan’s simple, yet effective, wash and blow dry system. This features a high pressure water jet and compressed air nozzle to ensure each camera can perform to its optimum level.

Nissan’s parking innovation is just one example of how the brand is looking to bring a number of new technologies into future models, in order to increase safety and make drivers more connected to their vehicles.
