The latest H&H Classics auction has thrown up some significant highlights for classic car enthusiasts.

It took place in the sunny surroundings of Buxton last week and bore witness to a significant number of classic cars being put up for sale for eager buyers.

One of the highlights of the day surely had to be the sale of a striking silver and blue Alvis Speed 25SB Charlesworth Speed Saloon, which eventually went under the hammer for £94,080.

The vehicle's brief production run lasted from 1937 to 1940, making the 25 one of the rarest classic cars still around today. For its day, it was one of the most powerful vehicles on the road, delivering a top speed of 160 mph with its 3.5-litre straight-six petrol engine.

Meanwhile, a number of other lots surpassed their bidding estimates as attendees took a shine to numerous classic motors, including a maroon 1972 Triumph TR6 which sold for £12,000, a 1969 Alfa Romeo Spider selling for £13,440 and a 1953 Humber Pullman Limousine that went for £10,304.

A number of classic motorcycles also went under the hammer during the sale, including a 1960 BSA A7 Shooting Star.

H&H's sales manager Damian Jones said: "We are more than happy with the result of our latest visit to Buxton, the sale percentage of which is well above that currently being achieved by some of our competitors."

Earlier this month, British Car Auctions held an event specifically tailored to fans of American muscle cars at BCA Nottingham.

A number of top-quality vehicles were on show to the public, including a Pontiac Firebird, a Chevrolet Camaro, three Chevrolet Corvettes and two Pontiac GTOs.

However, the main attraction of the day had to be a rare 1967 Plymouth GTX – a monster of a vehicle for its day, delivering 375 bhp and capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds.
