Classic car enthusiast Alan Davis was surprised to learn that a vehicle he lovingly restored at his home in Barrow-in-Furness had been lined up to feature in a big-budget Hollywood film.

The 57-year-old advertised his 1970 Ford Escort in Classic Car magazine and was contacted by a representative of Shepperton Studios in Surrey, who said the car was being considered for the latest instalment in the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Speaking to the North-West Evening Mail, Mr Davis revealed he initially thought the call was "a bit of a wind-up".

However, his doubts were alleviated as the studio representative explained the plans for the film, which is due to reach cinemas in May 2013.

"He said part of the plot involves classic cars and there are scenes in London, in Spain and other parts of Europe," Mr Davis revealed.

The car's former owner added that he was "pleased that somebody bought it who will look after it".

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson are set to reprise their roles in the latest Fast and the Furious adventure, which will be the sixth film in the series.
