I have decided I probably shouldn’t go to Players events. I am always so impressed with the builds on show that I go home with grand ideas of starting my own project car.

Players-2013 Feature

After clear blue skies for the Players Classic at Goodwood in June, the weather tried to get it’s revenge at 7th Players Show over the weekend.

Lots of VAG cars on show

The day started well at North Weald airfield – It was bright and warm as hundreds of cars piled onto the airfield while the show and shine entrants busily polished some of the most impressive project cars around.

One of the nicest Vaux I have ever seen

Very low and very shiny split screen

By midday though, the wind was whipping across the airfield, bringing the rain with it, but such is the passion at Players, the show carried on regardless. Helped by the fact half the show was held in huge aircraft hangars.

The massive hangar that plays host to the best of the best at Players

The largest held the best of the show cars with entrance by invitation only, whilst the other held Speedhunters #JOYOFMACHINE photography exhibition, fresh from its debut at the DPMD show in the Netherlands.  Speedhunters’ Paddy McGrath was also around, doing some features shoots for the website in their mobile photo studio.

Not that there weren’t some quality cars outside too. Even the car park at Players has more impressive cars than a lot of UK shows. It’s the sheer range and quality of the cars exhibited is that makes Players so fresh in a crowded scene.

Stunning RS4, roof up for the rain

Very tidy MX5 in the "car park"

Not good enough for the hanger - Players' standard is high

Airlift, the events lead sponsor, had their impressive fleet of Audi’s on site including Mr Players, Carl Taylor’s Audi RS4 now in ‘Kermit’ green with all-new pink Rotiform IDK wheels, fresh from winning Best Stance at the Forge Motorsport Action Day. I’m not sure if the pink is a nod to ‘Miss Piggy’, Airlift’s pink A4 that made the trek to Essex overnight from the Forge Action Day at Castle Combe too.

There's low, then there Airlift Performance low

The Players brand seems to be going from strength to strength, and with shows of this quality, long may it continue. Keep an eye on the website for announcements about next year’s’ shows and to keep you going until then, here are a few more photos from this year.
