Cold? Check. Santa Pod? Check. A field filled with VW Camper Vans & Beetles with their daring owners and families? Check.
If you followed the weather forecasts last week it seemed like a gloomy start to the weekend at Santa Pod Raceway, but this didn’t deter the hardcore VW fans from pitching up, putting the kettle on and socialising with friends old and new.
Saturday was host to the “Rust & Rat” Competition which displayed a variety of different models from the Volkswagen range.
Darren and I visited the grandstand to look at the “Human Powered Race” which – as the title suggests – is a free-for-all, people running up and down the drag strip using bicycles, scooters and good old fashioned leg power.
This guy seemed extremely happy pulling a wheelie for the majority of the race – well done sir!
The drag racing was also fuelled with competition from Beetles lifting off (don’t believe me?) to V8 powered drag machines and rocket-like drag bikes.
See I told you so!
The Sunday hosted the “Show & Shine” and just like the previous day, the entries were outstanding.
Later on in the day, a Spitfire made an appearance flying over Pod.
I said I had one tea left and the girls from Performance Direct had to battle it out. This was the only solution. Massive thanks to the gent running the “Bounce’n’Box” stand for letting us grab some pretty funny images!
Here are the rest of the images for your enjoyment.
