As voted for by social media, Ford’s new limited edition Puma ST has a unique combo of customisation.

As we know, letting the internet vote on key decisions doesn’t always work out as planned. Like in 2016 when the folks at British Antarctic Survey decided to let the new name of their new £200 million ship be decided by the internet. Of course, this resulted in the most popular vote being ‘Boaty McBoatface’ which then had to be overridden by the party poopers at BAS who didn’t like the name.

The brave folks at Ford have decided to do a similar thing with their new Ford Puma ST Gold Edition which will be produced in limited numbers and feature a unique combination of colours and features.

Unlike the BAS, Ford did not make the mistake of allowing their followers to have free reign over the design decisions, otherwise, we may end up with a bright pink or chrome-wrapped Puma ST Gold Edition. Rather, Ford created online polls on their social media for followers to vote for different options. Below are the results:

Just under 275,000 votes were cast in total via Twitter and Instagram over the course of 10 days. Things like the colour of the wheels and the gold touches on the decals were already pre-determined but as you can see, the colour of the paint, brake callipers and the name of the car were all decided by Ford’s online followers.

Amko Leenarts, director, Design, Ford of Europe, made the following comments:

“To create something truly special for our loyal performance fans, we’ve moved to a forward-looking approach in co-creating the Puma ST Gold Edition with them. The number of votes cast shows just how enthusiastic our customers are – and that they have excellent taste,”

“It’s all in the details, and with this special edition, our fans have configured a truly desirable product.”

How would you have voted? Would you agree with the popular votes or would you rather have, say, the callipers painted black and the pride plate to read ‘Puma’ instead of ‘ST’? Let us know, in the comments!
