Renault is expanding its Megane Sport range with the introduction of new GT 220 versions of the Megane Hatch, Coupe and Sport Tourer.

These will be powered by a version of the Renaultsport two litre turbo engine with 220 hp. They also come with a Renaultsport-engineered chassis and 18-inch ‘Sedard’ alloy wheels that are fitted with 225/40R18 Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres.

The GT 220 is inspired by the Megane GT Line TomTom, although it can deliver double the horsepower and boasts more dynamic driving characteristics. The reason for the latter is because of stiffer springs, dampers and larger front brake discs.

This car is front wheel drive, with power transferred through six-speed manual transmission. Its 220 hp is delivered 4,750 rpm. At 2,400 rpm, the GT 220 can produce 340 Nm of torque.

The GT 220 can go from 0 to 62 mph in 7.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 149 mph. In spite of this desire for speed, efficiency is not compromised too much thanks to Stop and Start technology from Renault. The car got 38.7 mpg on the combined test cycle and figures show it produces 169 g/km of carbon dioxide emissions.

This car’s chassis has front and rear dampers that allow for calibration and valving similar to that seen in the Megane Renaultsport.

In terms of driver aid systems, the GT 220 comes with Renault’s Anti-Skid Regulation and Understeer Logic Control. It also has ABS anti-lock brakes and EBD emergency brake assist.

Colours, specification and appearance for the GT 220 are similar to that seen among the GT Line models. There’s the option of Malta Blue paintwork with anthracite grey and polished detailing. Its door mirrors also get a dark chrome shell.

On the front of the car is a special GT bumper design, which has a reshaped central air intake as well as a gloss black cross bar that comes with the number plate.
