Volkswagen have started taking orders for a special edition Golf GTI Clubsport to mark the four decades since the first GTI was released. It is the most powerful GTI ever released and is boasts a two-litre turbocharged direct-injection engine capable of 261 bhp, with an additional overboost option that increases that to 286 bhp.
This translates into 62mph in 6.3 seconds with a limited top speed of 155 mph.
The Clubsport’s exterior has been revamped with a bumper offering improved aerodynamics and additional air intakes. New look alloy wheels have also been added.
Buyers can choose from a limited range of paint colours – black, white, red, silver, and both metallic and non-metallic grey.
Interior-wise, special trim panels celebrate the 40-year history of the GTI, while there are plenty of optional upgrades to customise including Alcantara bucket seats and a DSG box.
Owning one will set you back £30,875 – making it slightly cheaper than the Golf R, but more affordable than the Golf GTI performance.
Delivery will be in time for summer, but you better move fast as Volkswagen are planning to sell less than 1,000 of the special editions.
