The latest in Jaguar’s line of high performance and luxury vehicles, the XE, has been unveiled at a star-studded event in Earls Court in London.
Sitting at the top of the new XE range is the S model, which has a supercharged 3.0 litre V6 engine behind it, which is linked to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shift controls. This offers the driver instant access to the car’s power, of which it offers 340 PS and 450 Nm of torque.
The S model can go from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.9 seconds and has an electronically linked top speed of 155 mph.
Speaking about the construction of the car and what it could offer drivers, vehicle line director for Jaguar XE Kevin Stride said: “Jaguar’s position as the leading premium manufacturer of aluminium vehicles allowed us to develop a light, stiff body structure that is ground-breaking in its class. It enables the XE’s advanced chassis technologies to deliver an unprecedented balance of agility and levels of refinement previously found only in vehicles from the segments above.”
Adding to the character of the S model and giving a suggestion of its performance levels is its large front air intakes, chrome side vents, a fairly unimposing rear spoiler and the option of 20-inch forged alloy wheels.
Other models in the range will also offer high power and performance, coming with the choice of petrol or diesel 2.0 litre four-cylinder engines. In terms of gearboxes, there is the choice between six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission. Those who choose the diesel engine, which is part of Jaguar’s new Ingenium range, will see excellent fuel economy at 75 mpg as well as low carbon emissions at 99 g/km.
What’s more, the XE also promises to be the lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic saloon that Jaguar has ever created.
