In case you haven’t seen already, we’re due to launch or Motor-Vision Awards on May 1st. Now just under a month until the launch, we’ll be bringing you some of the backstories and highlights of previous winners.
What is the Motor-Vision Awards?
We are offering motorists the chance to fulfill their motoring dreams, perhaps it’s a road trip you always wanted to take, a record attempt, a restoration, a challenge, a charity project or something we simply can’t even imagine.
Motor-Vision and Performance Direct Insurance are proud to present the Motor-Vision Awards, a unique motoring awards scheme that offers cash sponsorship of up to £20,000 to motoring enthusiasts with a vision.
There’s no catch. If your dream is big enough, we’ve got the cash to help you see it through, the weirder or more unusual the idea the better – we don’t want anything irresponsible or dangerous – just original, achievable motoring ideas.
Previous winner: It’s on the Meter
It’s on the Meter was a global taxi challenge to break the world record as the longest taxi journey ever recorded. A trio of Paul Archer, Johno Ellison and Leigh Purnell set out to complete this mammoth challenge using a classic London Black Cab in aid of the British Red Cross.
The boys bought the Black Cab on eBay for £1,500 and they set off from London in February 2011. On their journey they covered 3 continents, 39 countries, 10 time-zones and 32,00 miles, smashing the previous record of 21,690 miles, all while the meter was on.
Their journey took them through mainland Europe, including; France, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Turkey, and Armenia. Then it was on to warzones of Iraq and Iran and after many breakdowns and extra border charges, the boys found themselves in the stunning Himalayan mountains into Pakistan, India and on to Nepal where they drove the Friendship Highway into Tibet.
“Tibet was definitely a highlight,” says Paul. “The place was mind-blowingly beautiful. We drove the taxi to Everest base camp, so perhaps we have also set the record for the world’s highest taxi journey.”
From Tibet, the team then travelled into China, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore. Here they shipped the cab over to Darwin, Australia, and finally reached Sydney on December 10th 2011.
This year we are giving you the chance to make your motoring dream become a reality. Application entries open on May the 1st, so make sure to follow us and social media to keep up to date with the Motor Vision Awards.
