With the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) just over a month away, Audi has gone ahead and revealed its new-look model which will take part in the coveted racing series.

The new Audi RS 5 DTM has been delivered in the colours of its partner Schaeffler Group, sporting a yellow-green theme. In recent DTM history, two titles have gone to Audi models featuring this colour palette, so it is hoped the same feat can be achieved in 2014.

Martin Tomczyk achieved the first of these titles in 2011, while Mike Rockenfeller replicated this success in 2013. Rockenfeller will be behind the wheel again this season and the championship winner has already expressed his excitement about taking to the track.

“If the car is as fast as it looks, we’ve got good chances of being in contention,” the driver enthused.

The model made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show last week, demonstrating to excited visitors its newly developed features.

These include improved aerodynamics and a number of new design alterations. However, what motoring enthusiasts will not see is the numerous detailed changes under the carbon fibre skin.

It will be the first of a total of eight liveries which Audi will be competing with in the 2014 edition of the DTM series.

While it continues the colour theme from last year, the new Audi RS 5 DTM comes with altered body contours to make it even more dynamic.

The latest version of the racing machine is able to achieve 460 hp and is sure to heap the pressure upon its closest competitors.

Mr Rockenfeller said he was “thrilled” when he saw the initial designs of the new vehicle, but seeing it in all its glory was a more impressive experience.

“I’m incredibly excited about my first DTM season with ‘#1’ emblazoned on the car and can hardly wait for the next track tests to start,” he added.

Testing ahead of the season opener will begin at the end of March until April 3rd, with the car set to head to the Hungaroring in Budapest. The DTM series is set to return to this circuit later in 2014.

Final testing of the car ahead of the first race in the Hockenheimring will take place from April 14th to April 17th, before Audi lines up on the grid for the season opener in Hockenheim on May 4th.

Regardless of what the colour is, Audi is fully expecting its combination of engineering expertise and the skills of Rockenfeller will be more than enough to help secure yet another victory.

Alongside the championship winning Rockenfeller, previous title winning drivers Mattias Ekstrom and Timo Scheider will also be taking to the wheel to help the manufacturer complete its “title defence” mission.
