The new Audi A1 will be in UK showrooms before the end of November, and we’ve got all the details you need to know about the littlest Audi ahead of its arrival.

Redesigned from the ground up, the A1 is 56mm longer than before, now measuring 4.03 metres in length. Width and height remain virtually unchanged at 1.74 metres and 1.41 metres respectively, but it’s the extra length that’s important because the second-gen A1 will only be available as a five-door Sportback.

That’s right, three-door A1s are now a thing of the past and the result is a much roomier and more comfortable interior with plenty of head and leg room for all occupants.

Boot space has benefitted too, increasing by 65 litres to 335 litres, while folding down the rear seats boosts luggage capacity to 1,090 litres.

New Audi A1 engines

The new Audi A1 will launch with just one engine choice: the single-litre three-pot 30 TFSI with 114bhp.

This unit churns out a peak torque of 200Nm between 2,000 and 3,500rpm, getting the A1 up to 62mph from a halt in 9.4 seconds when mated to the seven-speed S tronic version (9.5s for the six-speed manual). Speed tops out at 126mph in both variants.

On 15-inch alloy wheels, fitted as standard to entry-level models, it emits 108g/km of CO2 and returns 58.9mpg.

Not long after launch, three more petrol engines will join the A1 range: the single-litre 25 TFSI with 94bhp, the 148bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder 35 TFSI, and a two-litre 197bhp TFSI. The latter will only be available in S line Competition models – a standalone specification that sits at the very top of the model range.

All engines can be linked to either a manual gearbox or the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, with the exception of the 197bhp two-litre petrol, which comes linked to a six-speed S tronic transmission as standard.

New Audi A1 equipment and trims

Equipment for the new A1 will be split over three trim levels: SE, Sport and S line.

Range-topping S line models come with larger air inlets, additional sill trims, an elongated slit centrally below the bonnet with two fins and a larger rear wing.

That extra special S line Competition trim will be open for order in early 2019, and adds unique 17-inch platinum grey alloy wheels, red brake calipers, platinum grey door mirrors, sports suspension with adjustable dampers and twin tailpipes.

New Audi A1 price

Pricing for the new Audi A1 will start at £18,540 on the road. That’ll get you the SE model with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The manual Sport model costs £20,010, or £21,530 if you’d prefer the auto box. S line A1s ring in at £21,660 and £23,180 for the manual and auto respectively.

Orders for the new A1 opened in September and the first examples are due to touch down on UK roads before December.
