New David Brown Mini marks the 60th anniversary of the Mini

There are possibly two types of car enthusiast broadly speaking; the ones that like power and speed coupled with the latest technology and those that like the history and nostalgia behind what they hope to one day own. Nostalgia is certainly a big player in the market these days, and with the demise of the VW Beetle in all forms, it’s surely left to the iconic Mini to continue to wave that flag.

With the Mini celebrating its 60-year anniversary in 2019, it gives us a chance to look back over the nimble little car’s past, yet there is still much to look forward to as well. Something exciting coming our way very soon will be the David Brown Automotive limited edition 60th anniversary Mini.

Concentrating on delivering classic car shapes of the sixties in the main, the celebrated coachbuilder has proudly put together some of the most highly talked about bespoke versions of some of our most loved classic cars over the past few years, including the recent Speedback GT, which was based on the Jaguar XKR framework.

The David Brown Mini Remastered has been available since 2017 and embraces the classic looks of the original Mini (1959-2000) coupled with the DB magic that elevates the price to around £80,000 plus. It’s a lot of money, but that David Brown Union Jack badge does look extra special sitting on the front of a Mini. Two special editions are also available, the Monte Carlo rally version and the café racer-inspired version with just 25 of each made available across the globe.

Inside, the Mini Remastered is far less basic than the original model of course, with a 7-inch modern infotainment system plus uprated LED lights to light up your way. A decent choice of 12 classic colours – ranging from traditional red to vintage teal – is available, along with a choice of contrasting roof colours and 6 different styles of alloy wheel.

Now, the company is adding to the limited edition models with the 60th-anniversary model. You will have a bit more of a fighting chance to own this one though, as, unsurprisingly, 60 models will be built instead of just 25. While these images give a teasing hint of what you will be getting, the first true unveiling will be at this year’s Goodwood Revival from 13 to 15 September.

So far, we only know that the 60th anniversary Mini will have an A-Series engine tuned by Oselli – who despite the Italian sounding name that might conjure up images of those Minis in the Italian Job, is another UK based firm dating back to 1962. With the current standard Mini Remastered featuring a 94bhp 1330cc engine, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the Oselli tuned version will bring to the table, but we can surely expect more zip and a car that reflects this with uprated suspension and braking.

Drawing from the past and embracing the future; that’s the ethos behind David Brown Automotive and judging from the company’s past efforts, this Mini Remastered 60th anniversary model will be something to behold. The cost will be around the £90,000 mark.
