One of the most coveted and highly regarded performance cars is heading to New York for this year’s auto show.
The Koenigsegg Agera R is a true example of exceptional style and quality performance and motoring enthusiasts in the US are set to witness the model first hand at this year’s vehicle showcase in the Big Apple.
According to the brand, the Agera R is the result of the “endless pursuit of perfection” it values so highly.
It builds on the success of previous models, but has further enhanced the performance qualities as well as the visual appearance.
For example, the latest edition of the car is complete with new front side winglets, revolutionary Aircore carbon fibre wheels, Aero exhaust, increased power and a raised revs per minute (RPM) limit.
These changes have helped to push the impressive sports car to an astonishing top speed of 273 mph. Furthermore, it has also achieved a 0-62 mph time of 2.8 seconds. The mind boggles as to how this is possible.
This is achieved thanks to the Koenigsegg aluminium 5.0-litre V8 four valves per cylinder, with double overhead camshaft. It has the ability to generate a jaw-dropping 1140 hp and 1200 Nm of torque on E85 and E100 biofuel.
If all the incredible speed and power statistics aren’t enough to get you excited, what about the fact it is now the only roadster hypercar available with a detachable and stowable hardtop? Imagine taking this incredible vehicle on the English roads with the top down while roaring the intense engine.
Koenigsegg has been rather modest in its appraisal of the design. Despite it looking fierce and furious, the Swedish manufacturer has claimed it has been created with a “less is more” philosophy.
It’s difficult to see this simply from the outside, as it looks like a typical hypercar should. However, Koenigsegg has said the shape has been created as “purely functional” stressing that no added features have been included, unless they are needed to meet regulations.
“We believe that if this philosophy is followed, the car will be as beautiful as it is purposeful. A good analogy is the evolution of the dolphin, a species that has had to meet similar criteria in order to reach its present configuration through the evolution of nature,” Koenigsegg revealed.
Surprisingly, despite its low body height and aerodynamic shape, as well as the intention to minimise weight, the car still comes with an unprecedented 120 litres of storage capacity.
Koenigsegg has said that this means a set of golf clubs can be stowed in the luggage area – something that is unheard of in its class.
Drivers in the UK will be pleased to know that the car is available in right-hand drive, but those in New York will be happy with the left-hand version!
Of course, it wouldn’t be a hypercar without having a stunning interior. Koenigsegg is extremely particular when it comes to the materials it uses and only those deemed worthy of the brand’s high expectations are fitted in its machines.
This means the Agera R comes with aluminium, carbon fibre, precious metals, alcantara and aniline leather.
Drivers can also select the mode that they want to drive the car in. For example, if track mode is selected, the car puts its focus on RPM, pressures, temperatures, lap-times and g-forces. Switch to GT mode and the car prioritises vehicle speed, auto shift, satnav, power and music.
We are in awe of the Koenigsegg’s bold and powerful design capabilities and it is sure to blow the roof off the New York Auto Show.
