The car is developed for the track and will be compliant with the Federation Internationale de l’Automoblie’s GT3 race rules. It is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT, which is set to be launched in a few days.

This GT3 is hoped to offer a new vehicle concept to customer sports. Mercedes-AMG has used the racetrack performance of the standard GT as a basis for making the new car excellent.

Speaking about the new car, chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH Tobias Moers said: “We are entering a hard-fought and hotly contested competitive environment with the new Mercedes-AMG GT3. The high technological standard and fair race rules are spurring us on to push to take pole position with our new customer racing car. You can only give credible proof of your ambition to lead if you’re beating the very best in the game.”

From the standard GT, Mercedes-AMG is taking a few features that would help make the GT3 a great racing model: its low centre of gravity, excellent weight distribution and wide track width. The benefits of this layout include precise cornering properties, great agility, high lateral acceleration, a high level of traction and low inertia when having to change direction quickly. All of these things are helpful for drivers trying to get the top placements.

Looks-wise, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 is designed to look like a powerful vehicle. It has matt paintwork in designo selenite grey magno, a wide vehicle body with large air intakes, a diffuser and huge rear aerofoil. Bodywork modifications have been added in to improve power output and aerodynamic performance.

The structure of the GT3 includes an aluminium spaceframe for the driver’s protection. More protection is added by the addition of a resilient carbon-fibre seat pan and an integral roll-over cage that is made from high-tensile steel.
