The Audi R8 coupe has picked up the prestigious accolade of being named the 2013 Sporting Car of the Year by BusinessCar Magazine at this year’s annual BusinessCar Awards.

It is the fourth year in a row in which the R8 has come out on top in this category, with the motoring publication claiming the vehicle is head and shoulders above any of its competitors at present.

Paul Barker, editor at BusinessCar Magazine, commented: “Though most business cars are chosen with the head, brand image is becoming increasingly influential in the large population of company drivers able to choose their own car, and that’s where the Audi R8 has a crucial role to play – in showing Audi’s sporting prowess and emotional appeal.”

He added that the new Audi A3 Sportback also performed admirably, securing third spot in the overall Best Business Car of the Year rankings.

Voted for solely by the readers of the publication, these awards highlight the feelings of the motoring public rather than the stuffy sentiments of professional judges, meaning an award from BusinessCar is often something special for manufacturers.

James Douglas, head of fleet sales at Audi UK, therefore stated winning the category for the fourth consecutive time is a great honour and fantastic achievement for all those involved with the design and production of the popular R8 series.

Other winners at this year’s Business Car Awards included Jaguar’s double success in both the Executive Car of the Year and Luxury Car of the Year categories, with the XF and XJ respectively taking the titles.
