Our friends over at Grove & Dean Motorsport Insurance have been particularly busy these past few months with their launch back in November and also their prestigious launch night held at the Classic Car Club in London. Grove & Dean Motorsport Insurance also raced in the Dubai 24H earlier this month and some of the team also headed to the Autosport Show to check out what’s new for 2014!
Andy Hancock, a Director for Grove & Dean Motorsport Insurance, not only deals with insuring all forms of motorsport related policies but he has also competed in several different series in his career – adding many a string to his motorsport bow. This year Andy has confirmed his drive in the Alfashop Alfa Romeo Championship 2014, running with leading Alfa team Bianco Auto Developments; we spoke with Andy to find out more:
Andy, what can you tell us about the car that you will be competing in?
I’ll be racing an Alfa 156 in the Production Class of the Championship. The cars are pretty close to showroom spec, and run on treaded tyres – the racing in this class is fierce as the cars are pretty identical and its often means it’s the drivers making the difference.
Are you looking forward to working with the Bianco Auto Developments team?
I’ve known and raced against Paul Plant for a few years now, and I’ve always admired the success he’s had in the Alfa’s. Bianco are a Championship winning team, and I think I’ve given myself the best change of achieving success by signing with them for 2014.
Can you tell us more about your previous racing history?
For many years, I’ve run GT and Production cars in 24hour and Endurance races but 6 years ago I decided to step down from the pit wall and experience the thrill of racing for myself. Up to now I’ve mainly raced in 2 driver mini-endurance races, but I’ve always wanted to take part in a full solo Championship season. And I’ll also have the chance this year to run with Bianco in Europe (Spa & Nurburgring) and so it’s going to be an exciting season.
